Congratulations on the groundbreaking of Raleigh’s New Bern Avenue BRT line.

Falcon provided an extensive pavement condition survey, pavement design investigation, and geotechnical subsurface investigation for nearly 10 miles alignment as part of this landmark public transit project. A major focus of our scope was on studying the thickness and composition of existing pavements in a portion of downtown Raleigh which has been developed for over 150 years.

Pavement design analysis included a detailed study of projected bus routes, anticipated ridership, and axle loads for the specific buses the City would be purchasing. Articulating buses yield significantly higher loads to pavement than typical tractor trailer traffic, and thus honing in this portion of the analysis was highly impactful on the outcome and results.
