Jeff’s role at Falcon: Geotechnical Staff Professional

Tell us about what you enjoy doing outside of work.
My wife and I enjoy hiking with a few of our dogs and kayaking when we can (the dogs are not big fans of the kayaking). I also enjoy playing a variety of games; be it board, video, or tabletop role playing.

What is the one thing you couldn’t live without?
Dogs. I currently have 4 four-legged furry children and I couldn’t imagine life without one. When I went to New Mexico for my Geology Field Camp, it was extremely rough being away from them for 6 weeks. Luckily, I was able to pet a few dogs here and there that random hikers had. Whenever I go someplace, I generally notice when a dog is around. If I was allowed, I would have one here in the office with me laying by my desk.

Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?
My wife agreed to take me to Disney World for our Honeymoon. My parents had taken my two older brothers before I was born and then they went by themselves right after I moved out of the house. So, at 30, I finally got to experience “The Happiest Place on Earth.”  It was an amazing week that has since grown the love of amusement parks my wife and I share. This year we even got a season pass to Universal Studios Florida.

Favorite movie and why.
I have two favorite movies. One favorite is “So I Married an Axe Murderer.”  It is one of Michael Myers’ first movies. I have seen it easily 30-40 times and it still makes me laugh. Plus, it has a really good soundtrack. My other favorite is “The Usual Suspects.” It is a great thriller that has a lot of twists and turns. The acting is amazing.

What do you enjoy most about working at Falcon?
Falcon has an amazing work environment. Having had a few careers before becoming a geologist, this is the first company I have worked for where it feels like everybody truly cares about each other. Everyone is willing to help each other out and are welcoming of newcomers to the company.

“Jeff joined Falcon a little over a year ago as a Field Professional. While he came into an entry level position as a recent graduate with a B.S. in Geology, Jeff brings a wide array of experience in other industries with him, including transferable skills which he instantly adapted to his career with Falcon. He has quickly learned to independently plan, execute, and document geotechnical field investigations for NCDOT and other clients. Jeff has also proven instrumental to Falcon’s Environmental Services, quickly learning to conduct field reconnaissance, database and file reviews, and prepare reports and deliverables with guidance from senior staff. I have been impressed by Jeff’s flexibility and can-do attitude, passion for learning new things, and strong sense of discretion and accountability to the projects he works on. When Jeff is not travelling around the state on field assignments, he enjoys spending time with his wife and dogs hiking, playing games, or watching movies, and working on home improvement projects.” – Jeremy Hamm, PE, Geotechnical Services Manager
