Falcon served as the geotechnical consultant, providing subsurface investigations and design services for the first design-built LRFD project by the NCDOT. The end bents are supported by driven HP 12x53 piles and the interior bents by 48” diameter columns and 54” diameter drilled shafts. Falcon provided comprehensive geotechnical investigation and engineering services on the project. The investigation included drilling SPT borings with barge mounted equipment in the river as well as on land. Design services included providing increased capacity for driven piles on rock and drilled shafts utilizing current LRFD procedures. In addition, during the construction of the bridge, Falcon has been overseeing the construction of the drilled shafts and verifying geotechnical capacities.
