PROJECT

Fantasy Harbour Roadway and Bridge
1.7-mile roadway and intercoastal bridge

Cost

$46 million

DISCIPLINES

Geotechnical Engineering

Falcon provided comprehensive geotechnical investigation and engineering services on the project and performed Standard Penetration Test borings and Cone Penetration Testing. Deep foundations, specialized approach embankment construction techniques, and evaluation of seismic considerations were performed during the design phase. The design of the bridge included using current LRFD procedures for a total of 13 bents, with end bents supported by HP 14x73 piles and interior bents by 6.5 to 8 ft diameter shafts in coastal plain soils.   Statnamic load testing was performed on a pilot shaft prior to construction to refine the LRFD shaft design.   Falcon was also retained to monitor construction activities associated with the deep foundations, specialized embankment construction techniques and general geotechnical site concerns. The new roadway and bridge is used by an estimated 25,000 drivers per day.

Falcon received the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) 2011 Engineering Excellence Award for work on this project.
