Falcon Shares Float with Leadership North Carolina in 2011 Raleigh Christmas Parade | November 19, 2011
Falcon Engineering staff along with Leadership North Carolina kicked off the holiday season by sponsoring a float in the 67th Annual Raleigh Christmas Parade. Our theme, “Engineering & Leadership for a Stronger North Carolina” spoke to our shared vision in the largest Christmas parade between DC and Atlanta. A tradition amongst North Carolina residents, the parade was viewed by an estimated 75,000 people. Falcon Receives 2012 ACEC Honor Awards | November 10, 2011
Falcon has been honored with two ACEC Engineering Excellence awards for outstanding work on two distinct projects. The first, Falcon’s pioneering work on the National Wetlands Condition Assessment for the Commonwealth of Kentucky advanced the development of engineered wetland practices throughout the U.S. and most notably, established future water quality needs and programs for the citizens of Kentucky . The second, the A.B. Combs Leadership Magnet Elementary School Rain Garden & Stormwater Education Program highlighted Falcon’s leadership in “Green” design of a stormwater treatment system that incorporates a living garden planted and maintained by area school students. This project has won numerous awards including The Sir Walter Raleigh Award and the Wake Soil and Water Conservation District “Community Conservation Partnership Award.”
 
Falcon Honored with 2011 Sir Walter Raleigh Award | October 12, 2011
Falcon’s work at A.B. Combs Elementary Leadership Magnet School (WCPSS) project was awarded best in Site Enhancement at the Sir Walter Raleigh Awards ceremony on October 12th. Sponsored by the City of Raleigh, The Sir Walter Raleigh Program held the 2011 Community Appearance awards at the Marbles Kids Museum in downtown Raleigh. The ceremony was a celebration of the best in community design and conservation providing recognition and honor to the people and projects making an outstanding contribution to Raleigh’s visual character. The A.B. Falcon Project Makes Front Cover of the News and Observer | September 28, 2011
The Daily Planet, Raleigh’s new Museum of Natural Sciences, garnered front page accolades in the Triangle & Co. section of The News and Observer Wednesday, September 28. The Daily Planet will soon transform into a three-story multi-media space complete with an elliptical projection system designed to produce live programming of breaking science news ― while its final exterior layer will consist of a representation of the Earth’s seven continents. Falcon has performed both building envelope consulting services and detailed inspection for this landmark structure, scheduled to open in April of 2012. Click here for project photo.
 
Falcon is Recognized for Design of Rain Garden & Stormwater Education Program | September 26, 2011
Falcon was acknowledged by Raleigh’s News and Observer on Monday, September 26 for their work as lead designer on the Rain Garden & Stormwater Education Program for A.B. Combs Leadership Magnet Elementary School in Wake County. The project design was developed to integrate the stormwater system into the landscape providing the campus with the primary stormwater treatment function and an aesthetically pleasing garden element ― and also involved the participation of more than 160 students to plant and maintain the garden. Falcon partnered with the Wake Soil + Water Conservation District, Wake County Public Schools, the PTA, and area students to create this school’s new “Green Feature”. The garden ― which naturally addresses runoff pollution and contaminates ― also serves as an outdoor learning laboratory by attracting birds, butterflies, and various insects. Falcon Participates In ACEC/NC Higher Education Symposium | September 22, 2011
Falcon sponsored the ACEC of North Carolina’s Public and Private Higher Education Design and Construction Symposium held September 22 at NCSU’s Jane S. McKimmon Center in Raleigh. The Symposium’s educational program featured speakers from universities throughout the state, consultants from the A/E/C industry, and former congressman Bob Etheridge as a special guest. Falcon’s President, Tommy Faulkner, served as the symposium’s moderator. Topics of discussion included designer selection, project delivery, energy and sustainability, quality assurance, and the future economic development impact of our states’ higher education capabilities. With over 200 attendees, the 2011 ACEC of North Carolina Symposium, entitled “The Great Collaboration,” was a huge success!
 
Falcon Participates In Pirates Day At The Holly Springs Library | September 10, 2011
Falcon team members accompanied by family and members of the Holly Springs Rotary Club outfitted in bandanas and eye patches to celebrate Pirate’s Day at the Holly Springs Library on Saturday, September 10th. The day’s activities included crafts, games, movies, and more and attracted approximately 50 children and their families. The event, sponsored by the Holly Springs Rotary Club and organized by library staff was initiated to promote family interaction, literacy and reading to children in the Holly Springs community. Falcon Bikes To Fight Multiple Sclerosis | September 10-11, 2011
Falcon team members provided sponsorship and participated as members of the Weekend Warrior Team, tuned up their bikes and hit the road for a 2-day cycling event beginning in New Bern, North Carolina September 10 -11. The annual event raises funds and awareness which support people living with multiple sclerosis, a disease that currently affects over 400,000 U.S. citizens and 2.5 Million people worldwide. Together, the four Falcon members biked a combined distance of 460 miles for the cause. Falcon Presents At Society For Ecological Restoration’s 4th World Conference | August 21-25, 2011
Falcon environmental specialist presented at the 4th World Conference for the Society for Ecological Restoration which was held in Mėrida, Mexico August 21-25. This conference addressed the global challenges of biodiversity and habitat loss, climate change and sustainable development, as well as provided a global setting for professionals, researchers, students and the public to collaborate in hopes of identifying solutions for restoring nature and sustaining vital ecosystem goods and services.
 
Tommy Faulkner Presented With Outstanding Committee Chair Award | August 11-14, 2011
Falcon’s Tommy Faulkner was recognized for his contribution and achievements as a leader in the industry at the 2011 ACEC/NC-PENC Summer Conference themed “Surviving in a New Economy”. He was presented with the 2010/2011 Outstanding Committee Chair Award for his service to ACEC/NC, its member firms, and the future Council through his involvement with and commitment to the Buildings & Infrastructure Committee. The conference was attended by over 225 individuals in the engineering community.
 
Falcon Donates To The Food Bank Of Central And Eastern NC | August 2011
Falcon staff, in conjunction with fellow members of the American Society of Civil Engineers, organized a food drive benefitting the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. During the current economic crisis faced by many families in our State, ASCE members collected food and toiletries from local Raleigh engineering firms to assist those in need. Falcon Participates In Race For The Cure | June 11, 2011
Falcon staff has continued their support and involvement with the Susan G. Komen Foundation by participating in the 15th Annual Race for the Cure which was held on Meredith College’s Campus in downtown Raleigh Saturday, June 11. The organization, founded in 1982, has invested more than $1 billion towards breast cancer research and the Race for the Cure is recognized as the largest 5K in North Carolina, attracting more than 25,000 people annually. Falcon Project Featured in NC State CCEE Newsletter | May 15, 2011
The Nature Research Center and Daily Planet, an extension of the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, was featured on the front cover of the NC State University College of Engineering newsletter, CCEE News.  Falcon’s expertise in design and inspection was provided to support the successful development of this project including Structural Design of Specialty Systems, Building Envelope Commissioning for critical areas of concern, Structural and Special Inspections, and full Construction Material Testing. As part of the downtown Raleigh Green Square project, this new iconic landmark is becoming a national model of environmental efficacy and sustainability providing new jobs as well as learning opportunities focused on scientific research and awareness. Falcon Assists in Disaster Relief Efforts | April 21, 2011
On Saturday afternoon, April 16th, a tornado unexpectedly hit Raleigh and the surrounding counties with extreme force — leveling area homes and businesses, creating massive power outages, and causing millions of dollars worth in damages. Falcon team members, along with a community church group, organized and hosted a neighborhood dinner for those affected by the tornado. A home-style feast was provided by two local eateries: Frank’s Pizza — a well-known home-style pizza parlor, and The Pit — a restaurant famous for its barbeque and located in downtown Raleigh. Falcon Participates in Durham County Courthouse Topping-Out Ceremony | April 14, 2011
Falcon attended the Topping-Out Ceremony celebrating the completion of the structural steel elements of this 318,533 SF building that will soon be the new residence of the Durham County Courthouse. Falcon serves as Special-Inspector-of-Record for the project. The new courthouse and parking deck is intended to open in early 2013 and has been designed to meet the qualifications for LEED® Gold certification awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council.
 
Falcon Presents at NC State Construction Conference | March 24, 2011
Falcon’s Tommy Faulkner presents on the topic of Special Inspections at the 30th Annual North Carolina State Construction Conference. Falcon has been on the forefront of managing Special Inspections projects on some of the largest and most complex projects throughout the state, as well as helping to develop guidelines and best practices documents. The conference was attended by over 1,500 members of the A/E/C community. 
 
Falcon Moves to New Office | February 1, 2011
Falcon staff officially moved in to their new office on Trinity Road in Raleigh. The new office features a state-of-the-art conference room, training facility, gallery space, and plenty of room to accommodate Falcon’s continuing growth.
 
Falcon Named 2010 Business of the Year by Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce | January 21, 2011
Falcon was named “Business of the Year” for 2010 by the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce. This award was given as a result of Falcon’s services provided on projects such as the WE Hunt Center (Geotechnical and Environmental Services), Hampton Inn (Special Inspections and Materials Testing Services) and Rex Health Center (Envelope Commissioning Services), as well as Falcon’s community involvement through civic groups and other community organizations.
 
Falcon ACEC Award Announced at NCSU vs. Duke Basketball Game | January 19, 2011
Falcon was recognized for our American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) 2011 Engineering Excellence Award for our work on the “NCSU’s Carter-Finley Stadium Field Replacement” during the NCSU vs. Duke basketball game. Falcon’s President, Tommy Faulkner, turned over the award to NCSU Athletics and the NCSU Facilities Design and Construction as a gesture of thanks for the leadership they provided in making the field replacement project a success. Special thanks to Andy Snead, PE (Director of Design and Construction) and Ray Brincefield (Asst. Athletics Director) for their commitment to further development of NC State Athletics.

Falcon Participates in 2010 Raleigh Christmas Parade | November 20, 2010
Falcon participated in the 2010 Raleigh Christmas Parade with Builders of Hope by co-sponsoring a float in a parade that has become a wonderful Raleigh community tradition. Falcon's Sean Dolle and Jeremy Hamm Ride for Multiple Sclerosis | September 11, 2010
Update: Falcon staff members Sean Dolle & Jeremy Hamm completed the MS 150 (along with 14 teammates) - a bike ride that covers 150 miles in two days. Sean, Jeremy and their fellow "Weekend Warriors" raised just under $10,000 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Falcon was honored to be a sponsor for this year's team and has committed to continue sponsorship of this worthy cause.

Falcon Partners with Wake Technical Community College | April 14, 2010
Falcon teams up with WTCC to act as an educational resource for aspiring engineers and inspectors. WTCC’s Civil Engineering Technology students enrolled in the Soils and Foundations class recently took a tour of Falcon’s Raleigh office, where they observed materials testing processes in Falcon’s AASHTO-certified laboratory. Falcon’s Tommy Faulkner also recently presented a lecture on Welding Inspection Trends to the WTCC Welding Technology students.
 
Falcon’s Sean Dolle Prepares to Ride for Multiple Sclerosis | March 16, 2010
Sean Dolle and his team, the Weekend Warriors, will hit the road on September 11th and 12th for the MS 150 bicycle marathon to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The ride will begin in New Bern, NC and cover 150 miles over the course of two days. A total of 2,400 riders participated last year, and their goal this year is to raise $1.8 Million. Sean Dolle joined Falcon’s team in February of 2010, bringing with him fourteen years of experience in engineering and construction administration. Sean is known for his team approach, visioning, development and implementation of strategies to deliver solutions. He is actively involved in professional and community organizations including the USGBC Triangle Chapter Development Committee, the NCSU Urban Design Forum Conference Advisory Committee, and the Apex Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee.

Falcon Selected for the New Durham County Courthouse and Parking Structure | February 2, 2010
Falcon was chosen as the Special-Inspector-of-Record for the Durham County Courthouse, a new 11-story building and parking deck in Historic Downtown Durham that will attain LEED® Gold status. Falcon has partnered with MACTEC Engineering for this project, which is scheduled for completion in 2012. This is truly a collaborative effort between our firms and will result in a QA program well matched for such a significant Durham building project.

Falcon Engineering expands to Wilmington, NC by opening a new office | December 15, 2009
Falcon’s new Wilmington location will service the company’s growing client base for quality engineering services in eastern North Carolina. The opening of this new satellite office will allow Falcon to efficiently provide its unique service offerings to the coastal communities. The growth that Falcon has achieved in the last 18 months, in spite of the current economy, is due primarily to the need that exists throughout the state of North Carolina for thorough and insightful representation as an Engineering or Inspection Consultant. Falcon is thrilled to have been chosen by several of Wilmington’s top clients, including New Hanover School System and New Hanover Regional Medical Center, to serve as their consultant.
 
Falcon makes “Top Ten” list with Fantasy Harbour Bridge in Roads & Bridges magazine | November 16, 2009
Falcon provided comprehensive geotechnical investigation and engineering services for the Fantasy Harbour Bridge which was the longest spliced, post-tensioned I-girder concrete bridge in the U.S. at the time of its design. The 12-span intracoastal bridge consists of a 76 ft wide roadway and accommodates several lanes of traffic used by an estimated 25,000 drivers per day.
 
Falcon Providing Full-Service Seismic Monitoring for Construction and Demo Projects | November 10, 2009
Falcon Engineering is now providing full seismic monitoring for ground and air over-pressure vibration monitoring and analysis for your demolition or construction project. Falcon’s seismograph services are used for a wide range of vibration and sound monitoring activities such as blasting operations, construction equipment activity, pile drive operations, environmental activity (i.e. ground velocity / earthquake monitoring), and more.
 
Falcon's Participation Underway for 1st Modern Toll Road in North Carolina | October 19, 2009
After years of planning and preliminary engineering, construction has begun on the Triangle Expressway and Western Wake Freeway projects. Falcon is providing Laboratory and Construction Engineering Services to support the development of this, the largest transportation project in the history of North Carolina. The new toll road— a major transportation advancement for the commuters of the Triangle-area— is set to be completed in 2011.
 
Falcon logo wins Gold Hermes Creative Award | October 1, 2009
The FALCON logo— designed by S&A Cherokee of Cary, NC— has won the 2009 GOLD Hermes Creative Award. The Hermes Creative Awards is an international competition established and run by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP) that sets standards of excellence and gives recognition to those professionals taking the lead in innovative design of traditional marketing materials, media and technologies.
 
Falcon featured in NC Farm Bureau Magazine | September 18, 2009
FALCON has been cited in one of the state’s premier agricultural industry publications, the NC Farm Bureau Magazine. The article highlighted FALCON’s contribution to the recent renovations of North Carolina State University’s Carter-Finley Stadium; the firm provided Agency CM, Testing and Quality Assurance services on the project.
 
Falcon Goes Global | August 20, 2009
Falcon’s marketing coordinator, Christine Beauchamp, leaves on August 20 to attend graduate school in France through North Carolina State University’s Master of Global Innovation Management (MGIM) program. While living in Aix-en-Provence, a town near Marseille in southern France, she will attend Universitè Paul Cèzanne IAE in Puyricard. She will be working remotely while overseas and will return to the Falcon US operations office in 2010.
 
Falcon Attends Commissioning Conference in Seattle | June 3-5, 2009
Falcon staff attended the 17th National Conference on Building Commission in Seattle June 3-5. This conference brought together many of the firms who are serious about providing commissioning services, Several breakout educational sessions were conducted on a variety of topics including; envelope commissioning, energy modeling and geothermal well systems. Falcon has returned from this conference now even better equipped to assist in the commissioning process.
 
Falcon Raises Money for Race for the Cure Team | May 1, 2009
Falcon held an old-fashioned North Carolina Pig Pickin’ on May 1 to support the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Circle 4 a Cure team. The event, complete with a 150 pound pig, bluegrass band, and homemade North Carolina fare, was held at Falcon’s office. Falcon was proud to be a sponsor for the Circle 4 a Cure team, which raised over $13,000 for breast cancer research.

The Falcon team won a prestigious award for their placement in the 13th Annual American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Golf Tournament on April 29. Falcon Lands New UNC School of Medicine Building | April 3, 2009
Falcon Engineering was selected as the special inspector of record and materials testing agency for the new UNC Imaging Research Building. This 10-story, cast-in place building is an extension of the medical school's formidable presence in cancer research. Completion of this project is scheduled for 2013.
